Choosing the Right Toilet for a Small NYC Bathroom
November 30, 2024·4 min read
Prewar NYC bathrooms are often narrow, and a toilet that looks standard in a showroom can feel cramped once installed. A few dimensions are worth checking before you buy.
- Rough-in distance (the distance from the wall to the drain) — confirm yours before shopping, since 10" and 14" rough-ins exist alongside the standard 12"
- Bowl shape — round-front bowls save several inches of clearance compared to elongated bowls
- Tank depth — compact or corner-tank designs help in especially tight layouts
- Comfort height vs standard height — comfort height suits most adults but can feel oversized in a small powder room
Getting these measurements right before purchasing avoids the common frustration of a toilet that technically fits but feels wrong in daily use — something we check as part of every installation.
